The business is involved in the sale and repair of radio communications equipment and installation of radio repeater systems.  RB Comm does not install items in vehicles but instead directs customers to local Auto Electrical businesses for this work.  RB Comm does supply mobile phone amplifiers and antennas and also, for many years, has supplied satellite TV dishes and equipment.  

The grazing industry, local government, State Government departments and mines are the main customers.  Government entities which RB Comm has regular work with include the Charters Towers Regional Council, Flinders, Richmond, Etheridge and Croydon Shire Councils. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service are ongoing customers with the 12th   and 13th remote repeaters recently installed.

 RB Comm have been supplying three mines locally for many years.  At Pajingo and Ravenswood it has in the past installed and maintained the surface repeater infrastructure and also been their supplier of vehicle and handheld radios.  At Thalanga Mine RB Comm have been supplying radio equipment but have not been involved with the infrastructure on site.

  There are many sites throughout the north where RB Comm have installed and/or maintained equipment. Ray Barnes would be willing to continue looking after these for the foreseeable future and will use this opportunity to familiarise any new owner with the sites over time.

 RB Comm have a purpose-built website through which they sell products. Everything on the website is geared to the radio side of the business. During financial year 2019/20 RB Comm had gross sales of $137000 through the website.

 The website is operated by ‘Shopify’ as a provider however all editing, addition or deletion of sale items is done by staff at RB Comm.  Payments for items bought can be made by credit card, PayPal or direct deposit.  The cost of hosting by Shopify is US $25 per month.          

 Radio Harnesses:  

Judy Barnes runs her own business manufacturing radio harnesses that have become very popular.  Presently these harnesses are the main driver of business through the website. Judy is willing to continue supplying RB Communications at the same price she presently does after its sale. Judy has also created her own website for direct sales and will undertake to maintain a retail price no less than that offered by RB Communications.                            

 Staffing: 

The business is operated by Ray Barnes and a single staff person. Ray is mainly involved with retail sales, radio advice and contract work in the field. The staff member is involved with administration and retail sales. Judy Barnes was previously involved in administrative work but now is focused on the Radio Harness business, working from home. 

Ongoing Technical Support & Radio Repairs:  

As Ray Barnes has undertaken repairs of radios for many years, he is willing to continue to do so on behalf of the new owners for a period of time.  Initially Ray is willing to offer his services for the first three (3) months at no cost during the hand over period.  After that time, it is suggested that Ray and the new owner can come to a mutual arrangement for the repair of radios and maintenance of the remote sites. 

 Ray Barnes will provide training and guidance during the 3 months takeover period though it is understood that the technical nature of this business is not going to be completely learnt in this period.
