Barwidgi is situated 60 km from Mt Surprise and 80 km from Mt Garnet. The property is dissected by

the main Mt Surprise-Alamaden and the Mt Garnet-Chillagoe roads which gives good year round

access. Barwidgi Station is close to strategic business destinations such as Cairns (240km),

Mareeba (180km), Charters Towers, Townsville & Hughenden (450km) and Karumba (500km) to supply

saleyards, meatworks, live export and grass fattening markets. A major plus for the property is the

Mt Garnet based Stocklick Trading for all supplementary feed requirements.

Kangaroo grasses and numerous native edible shrubs and is mostly timbered with Narrow-leaf and

Silver-leaf Ironbark, Bloodwood, Ironwood and Box with scattered Cypress Pine, Tea-tree and Wattle.

The property is intersected by ranges and rocky outcrops with soil types being mainly decomposed granite,

sandy soils, alluvial watercourse frontages and areas of red soil. There is little evidence of weed pests and

very little waste country on ‘Barwidgi’.

 Carrying Capacity:

Barwidgi has the ability to run 7500+ mixed cattle.

As a result of aerial seeding of 15 tons of seca stylo seed in 2003-2006 the property has a very heavy Seca

Stylo presence throughout the native pastures. The resultant nutritional impact has caused improved cattle

Production through weight gains, stocking rates and calving percentages.

The ongoing fencing and water infrastructure development programme, a supplementary feeding programme

and improved management have collectively made Barwidgi a solid northern breeding enterprise.
